Nafia’s Greatest Threat

Posted on June 22nd, 2017 by

Dear Praying Friend,

It broke my heart to read a recent news story about the millions of missing children in India. The article described how victims are enslaved in brothels, businesses and homes while those around them are deaf to their cries. Complacency is mystifying to caring people. I am truly grateful that you are one who has heard the cries of these girls!

Our hearts are broken, not because these abuses are something new, but because they are all too common. These tragedies play out every day in the high-risk communities where we focus – families, deaf to the cries of their girls, hand them over to traffickers.

But because you care, together we are making a change in the distorted mindset that girls are a worthless burden on family resources.

Nafia*, a 12-year-old girl, will soon reach the prime age for being sold. Before we began working in her village, her family viewed girl-selling as an opportunity for generating income. As long as she survived in a brothel, typically about 7 years, they would receive monthly payments.

But you have helped us change Nafia from a high-risk girl to a girl who lives in freedom. As you supported our work with her this year, her parents began to learn her worth. We offered God’s view of Nafia and every other girl and boy. “Every person is a gift from God,” we share, “and has important contributions to make to your family, to your community and to this world. Don’t miss out on the joy she is intended to bring you.”

So now, instead of being locked away in a brothel, Nafia is helping her family to raise goats, generating income to pay for her education, and changing the perceived value of girls in her village.

This is an essential part of the mission of She Is Safe – to shine a light on the true worth of girls in places that devalue them – to equip and inspire each one to create a new reality for herself, her family and future generations.

To me, Nafia represents about a thousand girls who are bound to be sold between now and the end of July. We need your help today to intervene for them and share the life-changing truth that girls are worth saving, and worth cultivating.

Will you help us meet our goal to reach a thousand more girls? How many would you be able to free and equip? It takes about $350 for one girl to start a new life this year. Monthly support would be of tremendous help as girls have needs month by month. But in fact, any amount that you can give will help to make more girls safe and free. Click here to give a gift to make every girl safe and free, and click here to give monthly support.

Thank you in advance for your support to shine the light on their true value, and make a worthwhile investment in under-valued girls. Together, we can work to make sure that no girl is devalued – no girl is forgotten.

In His love,

P.S. Thank you for considering devalued girls worthy of your help.

Safe Homes: Where Girls Are Safe and Free

Posted on April 4th, 2017 by

Dear Praying Friend,

I knew you would be excited to learn that four girls ages 4-8 were rescued in recent months. Because of your support, our co-workers in northern India identified these girls and removed them from an otherwise dangerous situation that would have robbed them of a beautiful future.

The girls, Prisha, Sanvi, Jaya and Ria*, joined 20 other girls already in the safe home. Some of the girls in the home are high school age, and one of them is now interning in the safe home ministry office-a wonderful indication of a life restored!

Your prayers and support have made it possible for 20 girls to be safe and free in this home. Now, these four young girls join them and have the opportunity to grow in grace, learn their worth and live with dignity, joy and purpose.

Yet, as we celebrate each life that is rescued, we know we have much more work to do.

I have walked the brothel hallways with our partners in West Bengal and seen little children living under the beds of their young mothers, who are sex slaves. Without intervention, children of sex slaves are put to work in the brothel at an even younger age than their mothers.

At She Is Safe, we work hard to prevent girls from ever having to endure the horrors of abuse and slavery. That is always the best possible scenario. But in some of the communities where we have teams, girls are already enslaved, and we must work for their freedom.

As you might imagine, it takes a lot of heavy lifting to see to the individual needs-physical, emotional and spiritual-of each girl, with the goal that each will be free and equipped to become the women God created them to be by the time they are adults.

Upon entry into a safe home, each girl receives a medical check-up to ensure she gets all the care she needs both physically and mentally. And then of course, there are the daily costs of the home.

Would you consider a gift of $50, $100 or $500 to care for these girls?

As new young girls come into these safe homes, they are embraced by “big sisters” who came from the same or very similar background. It is a sisterhood of deep scars that makes them want to hold each other close. Redeemed by Christ, they share His tender love with the younger ones. It is a beautiful thing to see.

Your support and this sisterhood of the redeemed is the recipe to restoration for these girls. How many more girls can you help rescue and bring into this life-giving sisterhood?

Today, your gift will do even more! We have a $50,000 match available, so your gift will be multiplied to make an even greater impact. Click here to help us meet the match!

I can’t wait to report back to you on the lives we see restored through your support. Together, we are making every girl safe and free!

For safety and freedom,
