Saint Nicholas, Antitrafficking Activist

|Dear Praying Friend,|
As we turn our hearts to God’s purposes this Christmas, we can find encouragement in an unlikely place.
While our culture has fattened him up, moved him to the North Pole, and renamed him Santa Claus, Saint Nicholas is a very real and inspiring historical figure. A bishop in the early church, Nicholas was known for bringing personal and Church resources to bear on crises facing the poor in the name of Jesus.
Nicholas is said to have rescued three girls from slavery by secretly throwing gold in their window. According to the St. Nicholas Center (http://www NULL.stnicholascenter NULL.org/pages/who-is-st-nicholas/), the story goes like this:
Without a dowry, a woman was unlikely to marry. This poor man’s daughters, without dowries, were therefore destined to be sold into slavery. Mysteriously, on three different occasions, a bag of gold appeared in their home-providing the needed dowries. The bags of gold, tossed through an open window, are said to have landed in stockings or shoes left before the fire to dry.
As you and I strive to keep Christ central this season, let’s follow the example of Saint Nicholas, who rescued those in need.
This year, as you celebrate Christ’s birth, would you consider giving the gift of freedom and empowerment to girls who might otherwise be sold into slavery? It costs far less than a bag of gold to show God’s love to a woman or girl at risk of slavery through SIS. You can click here to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
